I went with a large size wreath since my front door is really big. This was a great project for this time of year. I always struggle with what to put up after Christmas so I decided to just decorate in a neutral winter theme.Andrea gathered up most of our supplies from the Dollar Store and different craft stores.

Since we both love grays, we purchased our yarn in gray tones, white, and off white.

We wanted to add some natural elements to our wreath so we spray painted these fallen sweet gum balls a stone gray color. I just LOVE sweet gum trees!

Andrea was certainly a pro at wrapping her styrofoam balls in yarn. In fact, I've never seen anyone make as many as she can. She did all of these in a matter of minutes!!

As for me, here is my lonely yarn ball. I wasn't as good at it as my sidekick. I think I should stick to making jewelry. But in my defense, I did have a few texting conversations going on, bathing kids, putting kids to bed, etc. But since I have such a fabulous sister in law, she came through for me and helped me get all of my yarn balls wrapped. ♥

Once we wrapped all of our styrofoam balls in yarn and we did a few in jute, we wrapped our wreath forms in burlap, of course. Then the fun part was assembling all the goodies onto the wreath. This project uses a lot of hot glue and whatever hot glue Andrea got from AC Moore...well, I just have to say that stuff is crazy strong! Shhhh....don't tell my husband we had a time getting it off of his precious hardwood floors. :)

Andrea and I went shopping the day before and we found these beautiful snowflake ornaments on sale at Potterybarn. We thought they looked great hanging down the middle of our wreath. Here is Andrea's final product hanging on one of my back doors (below pic). I just love how they both turned out.

ReplyDeleteOh I love this. And you could totally change up the idea for different seasons,...pastels maybe for spring, red and gold for fall (I never know what to do for summer, lol). I love this and I've pinned it so I remember to actually make it.
ReplyDeleteA very good friend of mine just put this up on Facebook...asking for my help, we're gonna give it a go..!! Wish us Luck ! " Jeanne Cain Smith " on Facebook .
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this wreath. I am totally going to make it. I love the colors. I love the wintery theme as opposed to Christmasy. The little snowflake accents add so much too. Love, love, love it.

Love this. I am going to attempt it myself!!
ReplyDeleteFound this through Pinterest and I love it!!! It would look great in any colour, I have a thing for black and white and think I would like to try it in those colours especially for the footy season next year (my team colours), even though I do like yours, hmmm decisions decisions. Thanks so much for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS!! I am new to the DIY projects and definitely want to attempt this wreath. I do have a question though...how do you keep the yarn tightly wrapped around the balls? THANKS!!!
ReplyDeleteDid you just hot glue the balls to a pre-made wreath? Or do the balls make the structure?
ReplyDeleteDarling ideas- love your blog(:)

ReplyDeleteFound this on Pinterest. Love it! I must try make it for Christmas 2012 - maybe in Red!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this wreath!! I pinned it on my "Church Craft Ideas" board. Red sounds nice!! With the knitters in our church we should get plenty of donated yarn.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great idea.
where did you find your jute? I can only seem to find it in "natural" which is too light and brown that is way too dark
ReplyDeleteI love this! Perfect for the winter months. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLove this going to have a go perfect
ReplyDeleteGreat wreath! Def going to do this season!!!
ReplyDeleteUsed this as inspiration (okay, I pretty much copied it) to make a couple of birthday presents ... for one, I used the greys and whites and added red and some IU paraphernalia, and instead of the snowflake, hung a 5 x 7 acrylic frame with all my sister's favorite kids dressed out in their IU gear.
ReplyDeleteThe second one, I wrapped in sparkly silver mesh, used greys/browns/whites as above, and added some apple greens as well. For some of the whites I used a sparkly/fuzzy yarn that added some nice texture.
They both turned out WONDERFULLY, so easy to do, but definitely $$$ if you don't shop carefully.
Hi - can i ask did you spray the wreath when you had finished it to protect it in anyway. I live in the uk (wet and windy) and am not sure if i should be protecting it as want to hang it on my front door.
ReplyDeletethanks
Hi Corrina We didnt use a protectant. we both have porches that are covered.
DeleteAbsolutely stunning! A friend of mine who's an avid knitter is doing this project and I had to share it with another friend who knits/crochets a bunch! So much love here. So much.
